Related datasets

The following datasets are often used together with climate models. The datasets are listed in alphabetical order.

Hadley Centre Sea Ice and Sea Surface Temperature data set (HadISST.2)

The dataset is combining monthly global fields of sea surface temperature (SST) and sea ice concentration on a 1 degree latitude-longitude grid from 1850 to date. The dataset combines multiple sources of data, including passive microwave data (satellites), historical data (e.g.  sea ice charts (and climatology when no information about the sea ice was available from other sources. Details of the HadISST.2 datasets is found in Titchner et al., 2014.

Ocean Reanalyses (ORA-S5)

The Ocean Reanalyses (ORA) Intercomparison Project produces a suite of ORAs datasets for ocean parameters globally. The datasets provide an estimate of the historical ocean state from 1979 to present, as well as a real time component providing the latest ocean conditions for numerical weather prediction. Data are generated and made freely available online by ECMWF. Details of contents and how the data is generated is available from links and paper below.
